Topic: Microgrids Provide Resilient and Sustainable Energy Solutions for the Military

Synopsis:  Military installations are facing increasingly frequent and severe major events that cause power outages and disrupt mission continuity. At the same time, the utility power system is undergoing a massive shift to renewable and intermittent electricity. These drastic changes are leading to a paradigm shift in the power and energy system model. This new model is catalyzing the necessity of microgrids for the military as a tool to actively participate in the energy market, increase operational flexibility, support the stability of their local power system, and provide resiliency and mission continuity during extreme events that cause power outages in the centralized utility.  This presentation will show how microgrids and distributed energy technology are being used by the military to provide resilient and sustainable power within the new power and energy system model.

Speakers from Black & Veatch

Dustin Rogge works with utility and industrial sector clients to find solutions that address power needs with complex project goals, including integrating solar, battery storage, other generation sources with varying grid considerations. He has 25+ years of experience in technical competencies with microgrid controls and power generation instrumentation and controls.

Doug Mackenzie has led multiple projects including a recent large consulting and owner’s engineering contract for the Department of Navy (DON) for the past two years, assisting in the development and execution of breakthrough projects that improve energy security for DON installations around the globe.
